Why does who I date matter?

We’ve had a lot of people ask questions about dating. An important dating key is this—high school (or junior high) is not the time develop a serious relationship with a member of the opposite gender—regardless of their church membership. (see Why shouldn’t I steady date in high school?).

When we consider the question of dating people who are not members of the church there are perhaps two important considerations. First is that For the Strength of Youth says, “Date only those who have high standards and in whose company you can maintain your standards” (p. 24). So it is important to make sure that regardless of church membership the people you go on dates with have high standards.

Why Shouldn’t I Date Until I’m 16?

In researching some of the reason why we shouldn’t date until we are 16 years old, I came across an interesting blog post. Some asked why Mormons can’t date until they are 16. The frustrated teenager wrote, “There aren’t any real reasons why! They just want to control us!”
