What is the difference between really praying and just saying a prayer?

We all know that we are supposed to pray. But what is the difference between really praying and just saying a prayer?

We tried to give a little bit of an answer to this on the WHY? dvd (see below).

Here’s one of our favorite quotes about how to get to the point where we are REALLY praying! “The most meaningful and spiritual prayers I have experienced contained many expressions of thanks and few, if any, requests. . . . Let me recommend that periodically you and I offer a prayer in which we only give thanks and express gratitude. Ask for nothing; simply let our souls rejoice and strive to communicate appreciation with all the energy of our hearts. (David A. Bednar, “Pray Always,” Ensign, November 2008, 42–43).

What do you think is the difference between really praying and just saying a prayer?
